Dishwasher sprays out of sink when draining

My new Bosch dishwasher drains with enough vigor that the water streams up or if the sink drain. The strainer basket keeps it contained but I'm nervous that if someone takes that out and forgets to put it back we'll have a mess.

Is this happening because the tailpiece connection is at a right angle rather than angled downward? I can replace that tailpiece although I'm concerned with finding one that will fit the few inches between the sink drain and the horizontal pipe connected to the trap.

I think you are right about the angle helping, but you don't have enough space for a regular sloped branch tailpiece I think. You could put a branch on the horizontal part.

I would consider a tee above the p-trap and plumb to the top of that.

Yeah you could get a regular inlet tailpiece but you'd have to redo your under sink plumbing.

Would the tee above p-trap entail basically this? Tee, to which the existing horizontal pipe is connected (elbow cut off), and then a tailpiece above that’s capped at the top?

Would that be functionally preferable to connecting in to the horizontal pipe (presumably replacing that with a tailpiece and elbow into p-trap?

Yes, if there is a way to drop right into the p-trap, that would take care of the spray coming up the basket on the left.
