Hi everyone,
I bought my house a year ago and am just now having an issue with the odd way the dishwasher drainage is set up. As the dishwasher isn't next to the sink, the drain hose goes into a length of pipe with a U-bend that connects to the main sewer pipe in the basement. The attached photos show the drain hose going into the pipe, and the pipe connecting to the main sewer line. The books the pipe is resting on were there when I moved in - overlooked in the home inspection, unfortunately. Lately, every time I run my dishwasher water is splashing up over the top of the pipe and onto my basement floor. I took down the pipe and cleaned it out, so I can tell there are no blockages.
I should say I'm a first time homeowner and have no knowledge of plumbing. The dishwasher seems to be bolted under my counter so I can't easily move it. I'm hoping I can fix this problem by changing something in the basement, either by adding or removing something about the setup that's currently in place. My first thought was to get a section of drain pipe without the U-bend, since it seems to be a key part of the overflow - I believe most of the water drains properly, just not all of it.
What should I do here?
Thanks for your advice!
