Hello Jason here, I’m a homeowner looking to replace 1/2 horsepower submersible pump at 150’ well depth seems to be original to 1985 or around the period as the pump and pressure switch are solely two wires one black one red as far down in well as can see. Newer 2 wire pump wiring seems to have 2 hot wires and a ground, my question is do I need to upgrade the wiring from the pump to the electrical panel? I do not have a control box off the pressure switch it goes from
Breaker panel to switch. Believe it’s 220 as dual breaker in box

No to your question. Just tape up the extra wire with good electrical tape, such as Scotch 33+.

Note that when you replace the pump, "1/2 hp" is not the only number you want to pay attention to. A 1/2 hp 10 gpm pump is weaker and cheaper than a 1/2 hp 7 gpm pump. There is a label for the pump motor, and another for the pump part.

Is the pump working?

How did you come to know that you have a 1/2 hp pump?

I don't know how you plan to get the pump pulled. The pump service people will likely want to sell you the pump from what is on the truck.

Is the well 4-inch steel, 5 inch pvc, or what?
