Hi guys,
I have a very strange problem with my well pump.
Specs
Very old, 8" diameter steel casing, 47' deep, Gould J5 pump deep well pump, and pressure tank. A very simple set up.

Recent History
I've had this property and well/pump for about 4 years now and the well and pump have been excellent with no issues. When we bought the place, the seller had the well inspected. Some roots had penetrated the casing at 7.5' deep, but cleared it out and all was good. Since that time, the well and pump has been trouble free.

When the trouble started
2 weeks ago, a guest at the property went to turn on the breaker to the well and no pressure was building. Apparently, the motor was hot and humming. They got no water pressure. I went up the next day, removed the motor from the casing and brought it home. I replaced the starter capacitor and the centrifugal switch and some of the seals inside the motor. I switched the voltage input from 230 to 115 and powered it up successfully on 120vac, when done I switched it back to 230vac.

I figured I was ready to roll again and drove back up to the property with the motor.

Reinstallation
I wired up the pump at the site and turned it on before mating it to the casing:

Then I mated it to the casing, primed the pump and it wouldn't work:

Here's the casing:

Where do I go from here?
I'm really stuck and grateful for any advice you guys can provide!

Apparently when you bolt on the pump housing it is putting the impeller in a bind. Runs good without the housing, and sounds locked up with the housing attached means something is in a bind.

Thank you Valveman, is there something specific to check for? those 4 bolts on the casing seem pretty straight forward, and the impeller spins inside the diffuser. I'm going to take the motor adapter off and see what is going on. See how easily the shaft spins.
Thank you!

I went ahead and ordered a new pump. I don't see an easy path forward to replace these bearings.
