Ive never seen nor heard of single family homes needing a backflow device on the whole house , though we have to have one on the irrigation in my city but dont know how widespread it is .
What I was talking about on the dishwasher is protecting the water supply an airgap dosent protect the water system it protects the dishes just like an airgap on a sink drain that leads to a floor sink does on a restuarant sink

instructions just call it the wrong name they are recomending a hammer arestor at the one place.
I was hoping Wayne would re read those codes and astm specs maybe he would agree I think he missed something there but only about 90 percent sure . I only guess no one else has read the info you provided sure seems clear to me no backflow is needed because the valve complies
Its just my prior experience with another cities inspector, but that city has always been known to have the most stringent inspectors.. luckily I learned to plumb for their inspections and its way overkill in every other jurisdiction around here. (times are changing here tho)

You wouldnt challenge it if you were 100 percent sure the inspector is wrong? If Im wrong I want to know Im a little disapointed no one other than wayne and myself have looked at this and came up with differant opinions seems pretty clearly compliant I see no argument other than a typo on a recomendation not a requirement which on the drawing and part number clearly show an arrestor. I get it though you just rather make inspector happy, I do that at times.
I would like to look into the tub issues with the air jets and water connection but thats a seperate issue

But I was explaining regular dishwasher does have an air gap on the water supply side. You hook the water to a hose on the dishwasher that has a solonoid on it. When that solonoid opens the water is dumped into a little tub on the side of the dishwasher, from there a pump pushes it through the dishwasher. If there was an issue with the water inside of the dishwasher it would have to fill about halfway up and then it would dump water out of that little tub on the side of it.

right on John ! I wouldnt know how to look it up specificaly because we automaticaly know the machine complies and no special backflow protection is needed.

Good point, the spec sheet says it complies with ASME 112.18.1, if so it should have an internal check valve (or two). So for the OP, does it have an internal check valve?

Cheers, Wayne

We received the tub yesterday but haven't gotten the tub valve yet. I haven't had time to check out the tub workings yet. Too busy looking at some of the worst plumbing i've ever seen in a house.

I think thats how it makes it compliant , though instructions should say its required unless a differant approoved method is used to control siphonage. unless something else is already in place as wayne suggested
