Trick to sweating full port ball valves aka what am I doing wrong?

Sweating in male parts into a bunch of full port ball valves and I keep on soldering in the actual ball mechanism in like one out of every five valves. What’s the trick here?

Maybe Wiping off the flux from like the last 1/32 of the male end that’s being sweated into the valve? Keep the valve open...closed? Thanks.

i think I figured it out. I’d close some of the valves while soldering to keep the plastic handle out of the flames way. That’s a no no - they need to stay open. Now using flame protecting cloth over handle. Keeping them open seems to have solved the issue
