Before calling a plumber, wanted to troubleshoot a small dripping water downstairs when the upstairs toilet flushes. Took off toilet and wax ring was in rough shape. I opted to remove previous owners "twist n go" PVC flange as well, and test out with new ring/flange. I'm at the cast iron (1950 home) and I don't see a place I can screw down the new flange and cast iron seems to be all one piece.

Any thoughts before calling in the pros? I wanted to at least attempt a try before raising the white flag.

Test by running water down the hole with a garden hose. If you get dripping water downstairs, you will know the problem is below floor level.

If that does not leak, you can put a Danco HydroSeat over the hole. Hold it down with screws, thru the Hydroseat feet, set into the floor.
What diameter is the hole in the flooring? Is that maybe 7 inches?

You can install a repair ring. PASCO 21013, Jones Stephens C85000, Oatey 42775, and Superior 21015 are repair rings with mounting tabs outside. Then use wax for the seal.

When using wax, dry-fit the toilet first, and position shims to prevent rocking. Then lift the toilet, drop the wax, and drop the toilet. A rocking toilet will cause fractures in wax.
