I installed a single pedicure chair for a small salon and they don’t have a water heater at all. They want to get a small under sink one just for the chair and I wanted to get some opinions on whether to go with a tank or tankless.

At first I thought a 4 gal undersink heater would be the best way to go since then I wouldn’t need to run any new electrical, but the chair’s tub can take 4 gallons and now I’m not sure that’s enough if they’re going to be draining and refilling the tub a bunch. Space is a constraint and not sure if anything bigger than a 4 gal heater would fit.

Anybody done this before and have any suggestions?

any tank unit will only provide 65% of listed capacity before it starts going cold.
If you have the electrical capacity, work on gpm of the fixture and go for the highest delta T. that you have available and size the tankless electric point of use.
Warning, they don't last forever. So, buy two.

Thank you for the info and help. Would you say just installing a full size tank unit would be the most ideal/practical way to go vs point of use?

For a serious business, you can't beat the reliability of a suitable 30 gal tank. Depending on work load needs, even smaller could work.
