I have spent a year trying to figure this one out.
20 year old hose with PVC plumbing and the only issue is one bathroom sink (in an addition)
The addition does have a vent pipe of its own, its a room above a garage with bathroom sink, toilet and shower
The toilet, shower, and sink all drain quickly. smoothly and work super well.
The ISSUE is the bathroom sink only. Usually in the morning when I run the water, either hot or cold, after a few seconds, I will catch a smell of my septic coming from the drain, while the water is running and draining. I don't heat any gurgles or burps but the smell is very obvious and then it will be gone in a few seconds.
It doesn't always do it, but usually first in the morning is more of an issue.
The drain pipe from the sink to the trap is about 18" so a straight shot, very long. I cleaned the drain and all was good and again, the drain speed is always good.
Here is the crazy test I did. I replaced the straight pipe with the flexible accordion stuff to test a theory. I wanted to slow the drain down, and this accordion improved it, as does closing the stopper slightly. Anything that lets less water down the drain or slowly never causes the smell to happen.
So somehow the speed or the impact of the water seems to possibly be letting the water in the trap out and gas out for a few seconds and then it's gone?
I am at a loss with this one and have attached a pic that may help. Any advice here or ideas would very much appreciated.
