This issue has now come up for me a few times. I'm wondering how long it would take for P traps to dry out when not in use. Of course I know it depends on the air temp, humidity, and air flow. But more in general. Like 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 months. I'm not sure if it matters the trap size. A sink drain holds less water, but the surface area is also less, so maybe it dries out about the same rate as a shower drain.

One person is telling me it happens at their house after 5.-6 days, but this seems pretty fast to me. Another person said it was happening in 2-3 days in a shower, and I told them that's too fast, so the problem is either a leak, or bad venting that is sucking it out. But in retrospect I don't honestly know.

Im going out on a limb Im guessing weeks JeffNC I totally agree a shower drain aint going dry in 2 days barring 80 mph dry wind or other oddball stuff , bad venting plugged drains arent drying out those are differant issues
