Long story short: Started trying to clear a partial clog in a bathroom sink drain, one thing after another has led to a concerningly short drainage stub out with a 1 1/2 inch pvc glued on top of the 1 1/4 inch (I’m guessing) pvc drainage stub out.

I need to extend the length from the stub out to connect a new p-trap to the replaced drain. What’s my options? Can I connect a 2 inch pvc coupling and then reduce it down to the needed 1 1/2 inch pvc p-trap or do I need to open the wall and replace the drainage stub out?
