I live in Massachusetts and recently installed a half bath on my first floor. The main vent is on the other side of the home. I ran a wet vent from the toilet and exited the vent through an exterior wall. It is currently stubbed out, planning to run 2" PVC up outside of the house, above the roof (see photo). I should note that the vent was not run inside the exterior wall before exiting, it is in conditioned space until it exits the exterior wall.
A licensed plumber/friend stopped by to make recommendations before he stands in for the inspection. He said that, legally, "a half bath vent cannot be run on the outside of the house" and up the side because steam can freeze. Can anyone confirm that you are not allowed to run a vent on the outside of the house for a half bathroom? Even without a shower?
Any other ideas to solve this problem before I have to vent across the entire first floor ceiling? Maybe even pipe trace/heat tape?
Thank you!
