Gerber Maxwell wall hung

About to install a new gerber maxwell wall hung toilet that is replacing a american standard glenwall. Do I need the nuts that have a collar that goes in the holes or can I just use the acorn nuts that were on the american standard one? Thanks Michael

The old nuts should work fine. However You will want to very carefully compare some dimensions from new toilet to existing projections from the wall. Make sure that the drain barrel isn't going to touch the porcelain. Not only because touching will lead to breaking it also prevents the seal from having the right "squish". The bolts may need to be adjusted if the porcelain is deeper. Also, the toilet shouldn't contact or be supported against the wall structure itself, even though a lot of old installations did. A correct installation will have nuts and washers just about an 1/8th in proud of the finished surface for the toilet to rest on. Having those in perfect plane is imperitive.

hopefully your new WC will include exact specs for stud and spud (drain part) protrusion.
Am Std's instructions:
"NOTE: Bearing nuts and washers must be set to take full loading fromthe fixture allowing 1/16" clearance between fixture and wall.
Place felt or neoprene gasket (wax ring not recommended).
When the fixture is installed, closet outlet gasket must be compressed sufficiently to assure a gas and watertight seal.
The following steps require a helper:
Install bowl on support using cap nuts and fiber washers with the back-up nuts and washers.
DO NOT APPLY TOP RIGHT FIBER WASHER AND CAP NUT UNTIL OTHER CAP NUTS HAVE BEEN FIRMLY TIGHTENED USING A WRENCH.
Install top right cap nut with fiber washer and run up hand tight. Wrench tighten approx. 1/4 turn.
Apply sealant to gap between bowl and wall. "
I recommend waiting on sealing until you are firmly convinced of good gasket seal.

You could pick up 5/8 open nuts if the bolts are too long. You’re going to want to use a neoprene seal. If the bolts are too short which they rarely are, you would need retrofit cap nuts.
