Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

So I am continuing work on my 1st floor bathroom project. So the picture below is the drain that used to go from the bathroom vanity to the stack. It looks like horizontal steel pipe that threads into a hub on my main stack. I have been trying to loosen up the horizontal pipe from hub on main stack with a wrench to no avail. You can see quite a bit of rust on the bottom of pipe (although i don't think its leaked through yet) . So I am here looking for what i think are two options.

1. Some technique to remove horizontal pipe i haven't tried yet (heat or cut off & then cut horizontally using sawzall )

2. Cut off entire pipe above the hub & replace w PVC & Fernco fittings.

My plan was to run a new line for the vanity and connect way below where it connects now (in basement) so I am messing with cast iron pipe in basement anyway.

As i said in title looking for suggestions that i might not have thought of.
thanks!

Go with option #2. Your recip saw will be handy.

Rusting galv pipes are never good news.

thanks for the reply , just curious if there are any issues with PVC supporting the weight of the Cast iron pipe above it?

I was planning on adding pipe clamps that would be tied in at each side to the 2 x 4 wall studs.

I'm hesitant to put too much pressure or force on the stack pipe. It's only attached on the 2nd floor (above) with copper fittings (?? why copper) , this horizontal hub connection and down below the bend going to the 1st floor toilet flange is holding this whole thing up.

I am thinking i will need to support all this cast iron pipe when i pull out this bad section. I did buy some clamps to go on the pipe to help support this. I will attach these clamps to the 2 x4 studs on both sides of this stack pipe.
