I have a well of unknown depth with the pump at 100 feet. Logs for nearby wells are in the 115 to 125 foot range, so it seems I am in the ballpark. The records for those wells indicate they were getting over 15 GPM when drilled. My system has a submersible pump with an 80 gallon storage tank, no CSV.

I noticed a gurgling sound from the head while walking by recently while the pump was running. I popped the cap and opened faucets to cause the pump to turn on, and it ran quietly for a period of time and then the gurgling sound started again and continued until the pressure switch shut off the pump. I've also noticed very small air bubbles in a clear glass of water, so it would seem that the pump is sucking air periodically. There are only two people in the house and there are no signs of running out of water, and have not had any issues for over 35 years including when the house was full of kids. Also, plenty of rain this year locally.

The well service I've been using for pumps came out and their tech told me that the pump was indeed sucking air late in the cycle, but from the current measurements it did not look like the pump was running out of water, but was drawing the well down pretty much to where it was becoming marginal.

He didn't think lowering the pump would help much and suggested a well cleaning where the pump is pulled and a weighted apparatus is dropped down the well to the bottom to knock deposits off the rock and remove it, allowing better flow of water to the pump.

I did a search for this on this site and could not locate any information. Is anyone familiar with this technique?

A picture would help. Is the 80 gallon tank a diaphragm or bladder style, or just the old galvanized? Galv tank should have an AVC half way up to let out any excess air. I would lower the pump before doing any cleaning. Doesn't sound l8ike a very good cleaning method to me.

Tank is a bladder style, about 7 years old and in good shape.

I've found information on chemical cleaning, brush cleaning and high pressure air and water, but nothing on the method that was proposed.

Thanks for the response.

Is the well cased to the bottom or just a little up top?
The well logs for adjacent properties that I have located show sandstone at 7 to 25 feet with casing down to around 30 to 35 feet. I suspect mine is in the same range.
