Hello,

I have a 9 year old Toto One Piece Toilet (CST853) which runs for about 5 seconds every 5 minutes or so. I have shut off the water feed to the tank and in about an hour the tank is empty so it is definitely leaking into the bowl. I changed out the flapper (twice to make sure that the first flapper wasn't defective) and I also changed out the intake valve to no avail. I hired a plumber to come and look at it and he says I need an entire new toilet. He thinks but can't confirm that the drain where the flapper rests must be cracked and it can't be changed out since there is no access into the bottom of the tank because the toilet is all one piece. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is the plumber correct? If so that is a bad design for a toilet.

Thanks

See how high the water level in the tank settles at. At the level of the seat? Lower than that? Higher than that?

If you have a flush tower, rather than a flapper, it is changed from the top. I it looks like the flush valve with flapper can be replaced with THU831-A tower. I don't have experience with this, but this may get you going.

Maybe rub the existing seat with a cloth, and clean the flapper mating surface. If there is some debris stuck there, that might be enough.
