shower valve cartridge replacement

I replaced the drywall and tile in my shower and when a I went to replece the handle on the single handle pull type valve the valve stem seemed to be to short resulting in a loose handle. Is there a cartridge with an extended stem. The vavle is 30 years old but seems to be similar to a Danco type modle 88431 or Moen 1225.

Moen makes an extension kit. It will include and extender for the stem, a long stop tube ( sleeve) and long screw. It will be available from a good plumbing store. The box stores could order it if you can find someone there who knows how to do a special order.
