Septic line clogged and I ran a power snake through and cleared it out. Line is 75' from the cleanout near the home to the septic and the snake was 50' so I had the pleasure of snaking up the line from in the septic as the clog was at about the 60' mark. Line is PVC and the cleanout is just outside the footer, plenty of trees around. Has anyone run a camera down the pipe and been able to see if there are roots or where they can get in? I did get some particles that looked like root hairs when I snaked it. Is it worth using root killer flushed down toilet?

I don't know if roots are a problem on glued PVC joints or not, but make absolutely sure anything you flush is septic safe - you don't want to kill any beneficial bacteria flora.

That's why I was asking about any root killers. I had to dig out the septic to clear the pipe so I had it pumped while it was open. It's PVC but judging from some of the work done in this area there's an even chance the pipe might have separated. For what they want to rent a camera, $200 for a few hours, I can dig up and replace the pipe.

The point of the camera would be to better pinpoint where to dig.

If you recorded how far into the septic port the blockage was, you could use that to know where to dig. Digging is hard.

Yes digging sucks, I won't dig out the septic again, I put a riser on it. neighbor has a backhoe and a good friend just bought a small backhoe and I have a trailer. I know where the clog was as I laid the snake out to mark it.
Anyone ever tried one of the cell phone type cameras? If I go in from the septic it's only about 15' to the spot.
