I have the Fleck 7000sx (5 years old) on a 2.5cu 13" tank. I'm about to re-bed the resin and i'm seeing the 7000sx is discontinued.

Should I be worried before dumping time and money into this unit without replacing the valve?

I think no. Do use suitable silicone sealant on the o-rings when you put things back together.

Is this on city water? If so, the resin should be 10% crosslinked. Is the old resin turning mushy?

It's well water. Iron fouled..I only had 8% and no iron filter (2ppm iron). I now have iron filter and a rescare drip on brine tank so shouldn't happen again.

I would try rejuvenating the resin with Iron Out. If you want to discuss technique, say so. I am not a pro.

I would go for the 152 ounce. Your local Menards may have it in stock.

Yep.

So have you considered how you are going to do that? You will want a strong dose to spend a lot of time with the resin. To me, I would let the solution get sucked into the resin column during brine draw, and start appearing at the drain. Then I would stop flow, probably by putting the softener in to bypass.

I would let it sit for X minutes. Then I would create a small flow, and again let it sit for X minutes. X might be 120 or more. Just an idea.

Maybe repeat a time or two.

The 7000 parts should be available for many years to come. We have purchased enough to last us hopefully another 5-10 years.
