Hello,

Can you help me find the right water filter for us?

Our water has a high iron level of 30 ppm(2022), 1500ppm(2023) and is very hard, causing significant mineral buildup. I’ve heard that high iron levels can be harmful to tankless water heaters, and water heater. 1500 ppm is insanely high, and I know the iron level can flunclate, and I believe it was tested when it was very high. I checked the previous years, and I believe the average iron level is around 30ppm

To protect our tankless water heater and prevent mineral buildup, we plan to install an iron filter and an Electronic Water Descaler System.

Can you recommend a good iron filter that can reduce the iron level from 30 ppm to less than 0.3 ppm?

You can see detail water report here:

You can see the white deposits in the attached picture, which I believe are mineral buildup, coming from the hot water hose of the tankless water heater.
We installed the tankless water heater in May 2023 and replaced the water hose two months ago.

Thank you.

Normally iron settles out in the pipes on the way to the houses. Then typically annually, they flush the pipes, although they usually call that flushing the hydrants. 1500 does sound very high. Maybe ask them about where that is measured.

I suggest that you get a Hach 5-B water hardness test kit to do your own hardness measurement.

Thank you for your reply. I heard that high iron levels can severely damage a water heater and increase mineral buildup. Therefore, I believe I should install an iron filter before the water heater. Could you please recommend a good iron filter that can handle 30 ppm of iron in water?

In my case, of course my iron wasn't nearly as high, but I installed a hydrogen peroxide injection at the well tank, then a carbon backwashing filter, then a softener. It significantly reduced my iron levels to zero. When the carbon filter backwashes, the water is very orange, so it's doing it's thing.
