I have a very old Moen bathroom faucet that pulls on and off with a knob. Everything worked fine, except the knobs were kind of old and crummy looking so I purchased new Moen knobs to install instead of the old ones when you take it apart and pull the knob off there is this small silver piece that slips over and then with the cartridge. The knob is supposed to go over that. The shower worked perfectly. The bathtub worked perfectly. But when I try to put the new knob on the sink faucet, it won’t go over the silver slip and even if I don’t use the silver slip, it won’t go down far enough to the cartridge and end up, sitting up a lot farther. The other sinks I have the knob sits farther down. I have the correct Moen part for the lavatory and it looks just like the old ones except clean and new. What am I doing wrong that I can’t get this installed

Lav faucets have a different handle than tub/shower faucets. Post pics if you can.
