My Shower valve is leaking. The valve appears to be a 1970's vintage. The knob says it is a Moen. However, the Moen 1200 and 1225 replacement cartridges are not even close to the same. My valve is a pull out to turn on and twist for hot and cold. It looks identical to the picture below.

It is leaking water out, so I replaced the Orings, but unfortunately the valve has a snap ring and shims I have not been able to get back into place, so I wanted to replace the entire cartridge. Does anyone have any knowledge of these?

The Brass Moen cartridge can still be found in some stores however the plastic 1225B also will work in the same valve body.

mine is smaller in diameter than the 1200. It also only has 2 Orings toward the middle of the stem with a bushing at the end. Also it is not brass or plastic. It appears to be stainless steel? I will post a picture of it later today. Maybe someone will recognize it.

The outer brass shell is still stuck in the valve. You pulled out the center stem. Pull the rest of the cartridge out and the new one will fit.
