Assembling my system after a long delay in getting the Vortech tanks. One little mystery, though. There's this one item, which looks like a strainer, yet isn't. What is it, please? And where ought it go? I suspect is to do with the KIO system. Yet there is no place obvious where it might seem to fit.

It is a diffuser basket. It slides on the distributor pipe and rests just below the control valve on the AIO filter.

Thank you. That's where it looked it might go, but (unlike top distributor baskets for the other two valves ... backwashing carbon and softener) there was no twist-lock detent on this little part. This while mating twist-lock detents are still to be found on the bottom of the AIO valve. It seemed odd.

That is commonly called an umbrella difuser. That type of diffuser is most commonly utilized in an iron reduction filter to diffuse the incoming water flow across the circumference of the media instead of erroding a deep divit into the media below.

When a regular upper basket is utilized as a diffuser in an iron reduction filter, backwash flow will often become blocked by oxidized iron solids, preventing the solids from being flushed out to drain.

What keeps that device up high rather than sliding down the distributor tube? Indications I got was friction.

How high does it get mounted? Indication I got from Youtube video was about 6 inches down from the top of the distributor tube.

The following link specifies the Cone Basket (umbrella) diffuser simply slides onto the riser tube and does not require any fastener or adhesive.

Diffuser Cone Basket for Fleck Air Injection AIO

Ditttohead's catalogue shows the umbrella diffuser suspended above a ring surrounding the riser tube which I anticipated the ring is a clamp to prevent the umbrella diffuser from sliding down further. Upon further review, the ring may be integral to the Tubulator that the umbrella diffuser is shown as installed on.
