My water treatment bypass valve is leaking at the inlet. The supply pipe is connected to the bypass valve via a brass connector with an o-ring. The connector slips into the bypass valve and is held in place with an H clip. (It’s a Fleck 7000 unit)

It leaks just below the H-clip. I’ve replaced the o-ring with the exact size and have even tried rings of slightly different sizes, along with different lubes. It still leaks, approximately 2-3 drips per second. The connector appears to be lined up correctly, because the H-clips slide in easily. The other connectors (outlet on this tank, as well as inlet and outlet on the next tank) do not leak.

The surface of the brass connector is somewhat pitted, although not noticeably more than the outlet connector. Not sure if this matters if the o-ring is there. There is no foreign substance inside the bypass connector and the internal edges feel smooth. [in the photos, it's the connector on the right that is leaking]

Moving the entire tank a bit side to side doesn’t do much. There is a some wiggle in the supply and outlet piping but moving the pipes doesn’t change anything either. It’s been like this for a long time with no problems before now.

Any thoughts as to what might be the cause, and what else I can try before replacing the connector and/or the entire bypass assembly?
