Need some thoughts on this 4 inch well that’s on my property. It’s 40 foot deep, I assume it’s a driven casing in our sandy soil. Static level in the well is about 6 feet from the top of the pipe. It had a sta rite submersible pump in it on a 20 ft drop with one of those seals above the pump that I can’t recall the name of. The date on the pump shows it to be 26 years. So, too the point. I have a couple fresh jet pumps not in use right now and I’m considering hooking one up to this well. Now I could use a well seal with a drop pipe and a foot valve. Seems like a common setup. What I’ve not seen is anyone thread a reducer to the top of the casing and put a check valve on top then to the jet pump. Our 2 inch well is set up as such. Just a 2inch pipe with a check valve on top. Then pipe to the pump. Anyone think of a reason I can’t do the same with the 4 inch?

Best to put a foot valve or check valve at the bottom of the drop pipe in the 4" casing. Sub lasted 26 years. Why would you want to switch to a troublesome jet pump? Jet pumps are a pain compared to a submersible.

I agree the sub pump is the way to go. The real reason to put a jet pump is that I already have them, since the 2 inch well is set up for that and I have 2 spares. We really don’t know the quality of the water from this well so really want to try it out before I invest too much into it. Thinking a drop pipe and foot valve wound be a minimal investment to try this thing out and see if the water is good. Appreciate the advice!
