I bought a new convertible pump from menards to replace a 1/2 hp shallow well pump. I needed a pressure tank too.

Issue was that the pump ran continuously with no pressure. We knew the pressure tank was bad. Thought the pump might be failing and struggling.

Looking at the lines there are valves that are leaking from turning to trouble shoot. I got it to build pressure by messing with the pump and toggling the main valve to the house.

Needless to say everything from the inlet to the copper 3/4 main will be replaced as they used galvanized pipe.

Here is my issue. I found out that our well is 70 feet. The inlet is a SINGLE 1 1/4 line. There is NO submersible pump in this design however, a 70ft well with one pipe?

I am now forced to use the nozzle attachment for the well pump. This according to the manufacturer is a shallow well configuration. Worst still the inlet on the pump is 1” not the 1 1/4 pipe from the well.

I am left with few options. Use the nozzle from the manufacturer that uses an incorporated nozzle and Venturi. Aka the manufacturers shallow well configuration.

Option 2 is to not use the manufacturers shallow well nozzle. Plump directly to the well 1 1/4 and put a one inch brass plug in the second hole.

Option 3 is similar to option 2 only instead of plugging the 1 inch hole on the pump I run it back out to the 1 1/4 well line. Probably a t and some elbows.

In option 2 and 3 I end up omitting the manufacturers jet and Venturi.

In all cases this 70 foot well has one pipe and will never fully use the convertible pump’s ability to push the water up the well pipe. The one inch hole under the 1 1/4 inlet is a OUTLET meant to be pumped back into the well pipe the help push the water up and into the inlet.

Please help sort this for me. Thank you!

What is the depth to the water from the surface?

Regardless of the well depth being 70', if the water is for instance, 12' below the surface , the pump will only need to lift the water 12' to the pump inlet.

The 1.25" suction line maybe reduced to 1" NPT by using an appropriate bushing or alternate threaded barb fitting.

That is not an option. You need to use the injector on the pump if the water level is high enough for a shallow well configuration.
