Hey forum!

Need help identifying shower components. 1952 block home in Tampa Bay, FL.

Sprung a leak, again. Washers have been replaced twice, so we think its time for a new stem or cartridge (probably need a water softener too). Not sure what the difference is between a valve, stem, and cartridge. Would love to know!

A.) If I were to replace this part, what would it be called and what brand do I replace it with?

B.) What tool/size would I need to remove it?

Check out the photos.. Thanks Nik

From the stem?

If the leaking is from the base of the stem, I think you would just need more packing.

"Shower Valve Wrench Set".

Thanks, I'll look for that set.

The leak is coming from inside the part, I marked on the photo red arrow.

Not sure what "packing" is.

You will need a stem wrench set and a seat wrench. The set will include a few wrenches and one should fit your stem.

Turn the main off and remove a stem and a seat. Take them to a plumbing shop, not a big box warehouse, for identification and a matching kit. Get Original Parts and not after market parts.
