I have a mechanical generic replacement control valve for the Fleck 5600 and the old riser tube is too narrow for the new control valve. Can I get a PVC pipe with the correct diameter, glue the lower basket to it and use that? Which glue is suitable to use in a water softener? Is the top basket necessary with the new control valve?
Thanks

To glue PVC, use primer and PVC cement.

Do you want to get a new basket, and glue that to the new pipe, or were you planning to reuse the old basket?

Top basket not necessary.

Old distributor tube was 1.05 inches OD, and the new one is 1.315 OD? Be careful that you got that right. There is another size of distributor tube in that ballpark. I am not sure what the OD of a "32 mm" distributor tube is.

Thank you for your reply. I have a new bottom basket that came with the control valve and I can glue that to a new pipe that fits the new control valve. I will take the control valve to home depot and check for a proper pvc pipe. Is pvc cement suitable to use in a water softener or is it better to buy a new riser tube made for the fleck 5600?

You can use PVC primer and cement with your pressure-rated 3/4 inch PVC pipe. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Charlot...ssure-Plain-End-Pipe-PVC-04007-0600/100348472

Smooth the end which will pass through the o-ring.

Lightly lubricate the o-ring that seals around the top with silicone grease that meets NSF 61. Also lube any other o-rings you handle.

thank you for your replies. I will get 3/4" high-pressure pvc pipe and I should have pvc cement (grey colour) somewhere around the house.
