Trying to remove this faceplate ( actually need to replace cartridge as it's leaking) but can't get it to budge , I've inserted a large putty knife behind it but it's being held tight against the tile wall at the center area (any more force applied there would break the plate ) ,,...any ideas??

The center circle should rotate to release. Removing that plate then reveals the hidden screws.

Couldn't find your exact trim on delta's web site. Similar trims from delta have that smaller center plate friction fitted onto the main escutcheon. Delta also shows a little notch on the main plate that you don't seem to have to insert a screw driver and pry off. keep in mind if you end up ruining your trim, any current 17 series delta trim kits should fit your rough valve in the wall. Also those trim kits come with a replacement cartridge.
Good luck.

Thx Grohe and tuttles, I did manage to get the first sleeve off and the rusty screws, now comes the " bonnet nut" I don't see one in Grohe's diagram but I found this one on Delta's :In the last pic is that nut so just channel locks will do the trick? looks like a brass ring.....Screenshot 2024-06-04 at 18.08.34.pngScreenshot 2024-06-04 at 18.08.25.pngIMG_2552.jpegIMG_2553.jpegIMG_2554.jpegIMG_2555.jpegIMG_2557.jpeg

I still wonder where the leak could be from...the cartridge ? (it does seem like an old install) or the washer in the cartridge ass'y. as in Grohe's diagram

with the water off and depressurized, That retainer ring should come off hand tight... However you might need some pliers to get it off. Place them closer to the outside edge so you don't deform the ring.
