Don't answer that ... but maybe answer this:

Just installed new Waterworker 20 gallon pressure thank with 38 psi.

New 40/60 switch.

Pressure is now worse than.

I have an ancient water softener, which I'll likely replace soon, but even with the bypass pressure is bad.

Thoughts?

It does. While washing laundry it cycled twice, Kicked on at about 38 or 39, then kicked off at 61 or so.

Get a garden hose thread pressure gauge. Monitor the pressure at the WH drain while you are doing something that gives you a symptom. Running the tub faucet full blast. How many PSI does the gauge say *while* the water is running?

Are you sure all of your valves opened back up all of the way?
Yup, all opened all the way.

That is a good question - I have wondered why my car wouldn't start in the past and scoffed when my wife asked if it had gas ...

You know the rest of that story.

I'll get one of those today or tomorrow - makes complete sense.

I have a hydrant in my barn off the same pump, but runs from the pump, not through the house, and that pressure is fantastic.

Does the number of elbows in a water line significantly impact the pressure .. just wondering?

Significant is relative, but I would say in your case, no.

https://www.aceee.org/sites/default/files/pdf/conferences/hwf/2017/Klein_Session1C_HWF17_2.27.17.pdf writes about various fittings, and comes up with a pipe length to cause a similar pressure drop.

http://www.pressure-drop.com/Online-Calculator/ is a pretty complex pressure drop calculator, and the first drop-down box lets you choose elbows, and whatever.
