Hello!
Recently had a bathroom flood and the toilet drain is the problem. I called a plumber out he confirmed the 90 degree elbow set directly under the flange was too high in my concrete slab. He replaced the elbow after jackhammering and reset it but I think its still too high and he said this must have been the end of the run when the house was built. The new elbow sticks up about 1-1/4” above the slab right now. We are replacing the flooring with luxury vinyl plank flooring so not much gain there. The elbow seems to not to curve until 2-3/4” inside the elbow female end so that would be where a flange would bottom.
Any suggestions on:
1) How much I could safely cut the elbow?

2) Trim the male side of the flange?

3) Are there toilets that have a recessed drain connection?

4) Is there a thicker toilet bowl floor spacer than what Oatey has in 1/8”?

Thank you for all suggestions

Kind of a disaster situation. Not right, no toilet that can work with that. I can't believe a licensed professional would say that is a job that is right. It is not right, but, not capable of a quick fix like what was done. call that person out to set a toilet.

If you cut the elbow flush, that would leave about 1.5 inch of straight inside. If you bevel the top of the pipe to clear the fillet on the closet flange, that would still leave over an inch of place to glue. I would think you could cut the tail on an inside (4x3) closet flange, and still have a good glue joint. I may be wrong. I am not a pro.

Good point. I was picturing a closet bend with ID is 4 inches. If the thing sticking up has a 4.5 ID, that would be a hub.

A 4-inch hub goes in 1.75 inches before there is a stop that keeps a pipe from going in farther.
