Good Day, all. I have a Kinetico 2060s that I think is about 20 years old and came with my house. It softened fine for a little over a year here but now it doesn't seem to be softening at all. If I double-up on the iron out and let it cycle a few times, I can get about a week and a half of work out of it. The regen cycles all seem to work. I'm thinking I may need new resin.

Does that sound right? Is there anything else I should be checking first? If I need to replace the resin, should I use a standard mesh 8% resin? Could/should I use an SST60 resin (I am on well with fairly high ferrous iron)? Any advice would be helpful. I can find Purolite C100E relatively easily but I kind find anything to indicate that it is compatible with my Kinetico.

Thanks very much. My wife if eagerly awaiting a fix that will keep the iron stains away.

Post a current lab report for your raw well water. 'Fairly high' does not provide a quantitative amount.

There are water qualities and often other contaminants that should also be considered when planning to remove iron, so a comprehensive lab report will provide not only a list of contaminants, but also the concentration of each.

Thanks Bannerman. I had my Kinetico folks come out and take a look. Here's what I have:

Hardness: 9 grains
Iron: 4.5 PPM
pH: 7.0
Dissolved solids: 173

He confirmed the unit is 20 years old. He is telling me that I almost certainly do not need new resin (he didn't actually look at it) since I'm not on city water and have no chlorine. He noticed that my head unit is skipping teeth and thinks this could be affecting how much brine it is feeding the tanks and how much it is flushing out.
