Hello,

First post but I've learned many things here over the years.

About 10 days ago I noticed what seemed to be sand or calcium coming out of the bathroom sink tap and tub spigot. Not a huge amount but enough you can't miss it. I took some and soaked it in vinegar and emailed our water company and I'm pretty convinced it's softener resin. It only seems to happen right after a softener regeneration cycle and a couple minutes of running the taps clears it.

My softener is a WaterRight Sanitizer Plus, which seems to be a rebranded Clack WS1, as those OEM replacement parts work in the WaterRight and the heads look the same. We've been here almost ten years, so the softener, including the resin tank and its contents, is likely 12-15 years old.

The resin tank is an Enpress 1054, which from what I have read here, is the same as a Vortech, so if there is an issue inside the tank with the plate(s), the only solution is to replace it.

We are on well water (not individual wells) and I don't think there's much, if any, chlorine, just lots of calcium and other minerals like iron, so we are pretty dependent on the softener, which is still softening the water.

My guess is the resin definitely needs to be replaced, and since the tank is also possibly an issue (and is old), why not just replace it too (?). Sounds like Purolite C100X10 resin would be good but not sure about the tank.

If anyone could take a minute and let me know if my diagnosis seems right I would be grateful. And any recommendations on US made resin tanks would be great (if that seems right to replace it).

There's a pic of the tub after a regeneration cycle and a close up of what came out after it dried a little.

TY!!!

Make sure that as you face the display, the unsoftened water comes in from the right and goes out to the left. Long shot, I know.

Enpress is a manufacturer of composite media tanks utilized for water treatment.

Vortech is a bottom and mid-plate screen product manufactured by Enpress. While a Vortech screen will be installed within an Enpress tank, not all Enpress tanks are equipped with a Vortech screen.

OK, I really appreciate the replies. I decided to replace the resin and the tank, going with the slightly better Vortech tank (made by enpress, as pointed out above) and purolite as I'm only needing to deal with hard water. Would have been nice to just replace the whole thing but I have a bad stop and waste valve 4 or 5 feet underground that I have to pay someone to dig out and replace so I'm going to just replace what is most urgent on the softener and hopefully get a couple more years out of it.

Thanks again for the help.
