Waste Drain Connection Question

Hi Everyone,

On July 4, I changed our kitchen sink with a Kohler Pro-Function single-basin, replacing an older double basin. I was able to complete the task from cutting corners and sides of the granite countertop to replacing the faucet.

When I looked at the p trap attached to the waste drain connection, I ran into a problem. The connection was loose. I removed the lock nut holding the p trap and it broke. I also notice the lock nut holding the waste pipe coming from the wall also broke.

This wall waste pipe is flanged, which means I am unable to add a lock nut connection without removing it first and then adding a nut from the "inside." I didn't touch it because I was afraid of breaking it. When I looked through the waste pipe, I don't see a connection seam either. This was another reason to leave the connection alone.

I went to Home Depot and bought a 1-1/4 in. x 1-1/4 in. Flexible PVC Coupling, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fernco-1-1-4-in-x-1-1-4-in-Flexible-PVC-Coupling-P1056-125/100055392

I was able to use it to connect the waste pipe to the p trap. There are no leaks to this date.

My question: Is this a viable long-term solution? Or, will it work temporarily and I need to find another solution that meets plumbing code (if this one doesn't)? Thanks in advance for your comments.

not legal but might meet your needs for a while . its a improper band to clamp over that fitting if you can find a proper shieleded coupling and cut the flange off you could use a band in similar fasion

Does the pipe shown in https://www.terrylove.com/forums/index.php?attachments/img_3926-jpeg.100174/ have threads?

How big OD? 1.66 or 1.90?
Sorry about the delay in responding.
There are no threads on the outside edge of the flange. The OD is 1.66".
The flange appears to be screwed on to the waste pipe. See the attached two new photos.
I don't want to unscrew this flange as it may damage the actual flange or the pipe in which it is attached.
When I look through the flange and waste pipe, I don't see any sign that the flange is an "attachment" as it looks like a single smooth internal pipe. I'm not sure how to fix this issue.
