Hi Everyone,
On July 4, I changed our kitchen sink with a Kohler Pro-Function single-basin, replacing an older double basin. I was able to complete the task from cutting corners and sides of the granite countertop to replacing the faucet.
When I looked at the p trap attached to the waste drain connection, I ran into a problem. The connection was loose. I removed the lock nut holding the p trap and it broke. I also notice the lock nut holding the waste pipe coming from the wall also broke.
This wall waste pipe is flanged, which means I am unable to add a lock nut connection without removing it first and then adding a nut from the "inside." I didn't touch it because I was afraid of breaking it. When I looked through the waste pipe, I don't see a connection seam either. This was another reason to leave the connection alone.
I went to Home Depot and bought a 1-1/4 in. x 1-1/4 in. Flexible PVC Coupling, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fernco-1-1-4-in-x-1-1-4-in-Flexible-PVC-Coupling-P1056-125/100055392
I was able to use it to connect the waste pipe to the p trap. There are no leaks to this date.
My question: Is this a viable long-term solution? Or, will it work temporarily and I need to find another solution that meets plumbing code (if this one doesn't)? Thanks in advance for your comments.
