Hey all. I bought a house a few years ago and it had 2 holes in the concrete floor of the utility room for (I think) a toilet and a sink. I installed a flange to the 3 inch pipe and mounted a toilet on it. I've been using the toilet for several years no issues. I'm curious why this black pipe is behind the toilet. It goes up about 7 feet and has a cap on top. The cap is not glued. The pipe is ABS. Is this a vent pipe? Am I exposing my family to methane gas? Do I need to vent this to the roof? The toilet flushes great and I've never heard gurgling. Thank you.

I would not worry about it. Could have been provision for an AAV, or to feed another source into some day. Is there a lavatory (bathroom sink) nearby?
