I was told that connecting my upstairs plumbing to an ejector pump is against code when the upstairs plumbing can be drained by gravity to the septic tank. Why is this?
I am remodeling my basement and want to move part of my sewage line under my basement floor. so it isn't in front of my basement window.

Its hard to say WHY a code was made.. theres no Reasoning in the books.. you have to go to the IAPMO pages for that... and honestly its boring reading of engineering garbage (sorry engineers) that for the most part is nonsense..

In this case however we probably assume 2 things were considered. Pumps fail. Gravity always works.

That being said. There are more than 2 ways to skin a cat. Sometimes you can regrade a drain to get over or under a window to accomplish the goal. Or maybe even lowering the window slightly and soffiting the drain. The drain could exit the house in another location and reconnect in the sewer perhaps.
