Should the end only of an Outlet pipe be visible? I will need to look harder but I remember we had a green pvc pipe that was the outlet pipe in which the end of that pipe stuck out of the dirt by a few inches above the liquid. But for the past two weeks, I don't think I have seen the outlet visible. Is it supposed to be like that or should I still see the end? I guess that would mean the water level that this pipe drains into has risen higher than the pipe or the dirt that is on top of the pipe covered it?
We inherited this property and this system, the dirt that covers the outlet looks like someone just took a dump truck and laid out the dirt and did not spread it out, so it is like a giant hill of dirt. And a few months back there was so much overgrowth. I had to cut about 5 small trees about 12-15ft tall, 3 inches thick, even had a medium size sapling growing right on top of the mound of dirt where the outlet pipe is. I had so many vines that were hanging so low it was like walking into a jungle. There is a down-rotted tree lying in the middle of the drainage pond. Its a pretty big tree, 30ft tall, and maybe 2-3 ft wide, but it is not solid. Then we had elephant ears growing like crazy on the other side of the rotted tree opposite the outlet pipe side. The drainage field looks like a swap, marshy water, mud, trees, some grass, and stumps where I cut sticking out about 2 feet above ground.
So this drain field is right next to the tree line. Since I cut those trees, I have about 10-15 ft of open space before you walk into the woods. Then on the other side of the drain field is a pond, there is no outlet for the drain field, and before I cut those trees, I would get no sunlight due to the overgrowth. I have not noticed the water level of the drain field increasing. So it's possible the outlet may be covered with the dirt that is on top. The water outflow from our house from all of our things that use them is ok, except both toilets are draining slowly and it seemed to start when I could not see the outlet pipe.
No gurgling noises are bad odors just the outlet pipe is my concern, what do you think? And should I clear all the growth from around the drainage pond, if so how many feet should be between it and vegetation? And should I spread the mound of dirt more evenly? And how deep are drainage pipes buried in the ground? The mound of dirt is probably about 4ft long, 3 ft high compared to ground level. Should a drain field look like mine does?
