I currently have a Goulds 1/2 hp pump and a V60mp tank . The packer is a FP2-7 and the well is a 2 inch casing down appro 55 ft. The pump rums for a long time before it builds to pressure and we sometimes run out of water. After doing some research on your website I am thinking the packer is not matched to the pump so it isn’t pumping the water to the surface with enough volume of water. Should I replace the packer with one that matches the pump?

If the pump worked previously I would think more likely the leathers are leaking than a mismatch problem. But while you have it out to replace the leathers might as well switch to a FP2-8 made for the 1/2HP.

The pump never really worked correctly and always ran a long time. how important is a matched packer/pump.
