I could really use some advice, I recently switch from a chlorine system to a Katalox system with ozone injection (eog), softener, and carbon backwash filter. I have sulfates and tannins in the water still and was thinking of replacing my softener resin (7 years old) with new mixed bed resin (10% cross cation and anion -2:1). I’ve seen a few posts that make me question this. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

Anion resin requires soft water, so the two medias would need to remain separated, with water flow passing through the softening resin prior to contacting the anion resin.

While there are media tanks available that incorporate a divider screen to keep two medias separated, to function most effectively, the water requires sufficient contact time with both ion exchange medias for ion exchange to fully occur, but with the reduced bed depth for each media within the same tank, the contact time for each will be severely reduced, thereby increasing the amount of hardness/tannin/sulfate leakage through both resins.

For optimal effectiveness and simplicity, suggest adding a separate backwashing anion system after the existing softener.
