Hey all. I purchased a home a few years ago with well water and softener system. The system is functioning, but trying to verify and better understand current settings.
Slight brownish water noticed when filling a tub, but still relatively soft to my untrained eye. No smell, taste, or feel issues otherwise. We do drink this water after a fridge filter.
Main question: do these settings look acceptable and any glaring tweaks needed? Extra questions posted after the system details if anyone is kind enough. I've worked hard to grasp the concepts, but the pro level details are hard to come by.
System:
Size: 32k cap according to the fleck 5600 dial on the resin tank
Components:
Pressure tank
Salt Brine tank
Chlorine tank w/ Stenner Pump
9x48 Media Filter w/ Fleck 5600 mech
9x48 Carbon filter w/ Fleck 5600 12 day.
120g Retention Tank
Water Lab Analysis:
(Original build 2001 well water analysis from lab):
Turbidity: 13 ntu
Hardness: 285 mg/l
Iron: 0.44 mg/L
Manganese: 0.02 mg/L
Flow: 3gpm
Media Resin setting:
People: Set to 4
Grains hardness: 16 matched to 4 people
Capacity: 17 x100
Salt pounds: 12
Brine injector: 1
Drain flow: 3 gpm.
Carbon filter Fleck 5600 setting:
6 & 12 day
Stenner pump Cl setting:
Flow/speed set to 10
Told 15gal water to 1gal bleach.
Using 15gal water to .5gal pool Cl.
Extra questions if anyone has the time or energy to help me learn:
Resin tank questions:
Grains of hardness ok?
Should I just leave it set to 4 people as use will likely increase as kids get older?
12 salt lbs ok? Using 1 bag every few months.
Mfg date is 2011. May need to rebed/replace soon? Tank looks about half full. Trying citric acid/res out to see if there is any improvement on the brownish water mentioned in tub.
Carbon filter questions:
6 and 12 day setting ok?
Any maintenance that should be done/how long does the carbon last? Mfg date also 2011.
Chlorine tank questions:
Setting of 10 ok? Limited notes from prior owner show the prior service company eventually recommended for longevity.
15gal water to 1 gal bleach or .5gal pool chlorine seem ok?
Proper chlorine level and best test method?
