Loop vs Airgap

If I understad correctly, looping from the dishwasher instead of an airgap just means to run the dishwasher hose as high as possible before connecting it into the disposal. Is this correct?

That's about it. It's usually done by fastening the line to the underside of the counter. You want to be sure the line will stay looped and not kink, but that not too difficult.
