I am a volunteer for a non profit eco hostel, community center, animal rescue in Rosarito across from San Diego

We will have 5 toilets for guests, i did want single piece or skirted since i figured that would help with cleaning/ maid costs but the price difference was qutie a bit, although if the toilets last say 20 yrs then the cost savings from cleaning could factor in

Some people said the drake didnt clean the bowl as well as the 2, but the current CST776CEFG drake model has the turbo flush and CEFIONTECT so based on my noob experience its essentially the same as the drake 2 so perhaps those reviews were talking about the older model that didnt have CEFIONTECT

There are water issues in this area so we would get emergency tanks with a pump for when the city does rationing, at some point we plan to introduce some water recyling system, at the moment hydraloop looks fairly decent

Also if a toilet is skirted does it matter then if its single or 2 piece, since you can just wipe the skirt clean due to no grooves or anything?

Sounds like a cool effort you help with.
CEFIONTECT and similar are just OK, not that impressive. I've owned American Standard's version and Totos with special finishes and do not think they hardly help much.
Don't plan on Toilets lasting 20 yr in commercial setting. After less than 5 years, minerals build up in the internal glazed trapway and cause sluggishness.
Cleaning comments aside, it is all a matter of approach to cleaning. Request guests SIT to pee and cleaning isn't an issue! I am serious. Put up a sign.
Am. Std Champion have a nice raised deck lip on two piece that helps and they flush great.

It sounds like you’re doing amazing work balancing sustainability, cost-efficiency, and practicality for your eco hostel and community center—no small feat! Your research on the TOTO Drake toilets is spot-on. The newer CST776CEFG with Turbo Flush and CEFIONTECT should address the older models’ cleaning issues, and skirted designs (whether single or two-piece) definitely make wiping down easier since there are no crevices. The long-term savings on maintenance could justify the upfront cost, especially over 20 years.

For your water recycling plans, Hydra Loop is an interesting choice! Have you started prototypingsystems yet, or is that still in the early stages?

By the way, have you considered pairing skirted toilets with low-flow or dual-flush mechanisms to stretch your water reserves further?
