My friends disposal Was installed by some hack artist. When the disposal side sink is half filled with water and the disposal turned on water comes up the drain on the other side. Please take a look at the picture and tell me what to do. I'll do it!

The disposer is installed correctly.

The p-trap on the right side is wrong though.

If water is winding up in the other sink, there there must be a blockage in the line past the p-traps preventing either sink to drain.

What two traps should look like.

How it's often done with one.

Whether a GFCI is required under the sink varies depending on what version of the NEC you are under: 2014 - Maybe; 2017 - No; 2020 - Yes.

Up until yesterday (10/29/2020), WA state was on the 2017 NEC, so GFCI wasn't required. Now it is on the 2020 NEC, so it is required.

Back to the OP's concern:

WI code requires the two trap method with a disposal, and Terry is right that that side is fine.

Get a new, longer tubular tailpiece extension. They're often two-sided, so just cut it to length. Use one of the bends, get rid of the other one. Looks like the trap will still line up fine. You can take the horizontal pipe out, and cut it if you need it shorter.

Fill both sides, and see if you have a clog. You might need to get the sink snaked out, too.
