I just moved into a new rental and need to install a gas dryer. I purchased a flexible connector that fits on the dryer normal, but I cannot find the right adapter to get the connector onto the gas line in the laundry room.

Here's a photo of the line where I am trying to connect the connector.

You can see there is an adapter already in place. This adapter is caked with sealant and will not budge. So at this point I feel I need to leave it in place and try to connect the line to this adapter. This is where I am having trouble.

This is the connector I have and the adapter that came with it. The connector is a 1/2" flare female.

To connect the connector to the line, I purchased a 3/4" female flare x 1/2" male flare (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CVWP6R49?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). This was too large for the adapter that's on the line. So I tried a 5/8" female flare to 1/2" male flare and this was too small (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CVX1C97L?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details).

So 3/4 was too large, and 5/8 was too small. At this point I figure I must be missing something, so any help is appreciated.

Yikes ANY LICENSED PLUMBER who gives a non licensed person advice on gas piping needs to have their head examined.

By the way the land lord can SUE YOU ND RIGHTFULLY SO

My employees are taking 16 hour classes on working on gas piping ,inspections to make sure the piping has integrity and of course all work on gas piping is filed with the HJA and has the work physically inspected.

A tiny mistake can cost lives. I guess this is why last week I had to take another 8 hour class even though I have over 54 years as a plumber /gas fitter /steam fitter and ex federal low pressure boiler inspector

It might be worth checking New Leaf Service Contracts reviews to see if others have encountered similar issues and what solutions they found helpful.

I'm getting ready to connect my new gas dryer to the line installed by the plumber. The test gauge is still attached, but I've been informed that it has passed its test and can be removed. The connection appears to be a 1/2 inch female fitting, so I’ll need a 1/2 inch male fitting to connect. The flex line has a 3/8 flare fitting and includes a 1/2 inch adapter. It seems I need a fitting that has a 1/2 inch male pipe fitting on one end and either a 1/2 or 3/8 flare on the other. The dryer has a 3/8 straight pipe, which means I'll need an adapter with a 3/8 female pipe fitting on one end and a 3/8 male flare fitting on the other. I was hoping to find a 90-degree fitting due to space limitations, but the local Home Depot doesn't have one, so I'll need to be careful not to bend the flex pipe too much. I have pipe dope for the pipe fittings, but I understand that it shouldn't be used on the flare fittings.
