Sorry if this has already been answered, but I am looking for accurate information on the difference between the Drake cst776cefg and the Drake II cst454cefg. One Toto rep told me the only difference was the shape of the tank. The other told me that the bowl on the 776 was a different design.

I have two of the 454 and have been happy with it, but given the price difference between the two, if the 776 has the same features I would rather save some money on the next replacement. Thanks in advance.

Looking at the spec sheets, the CST786 has a smaller water surface ( 9 x 6 7/8 on 776 vs 9 1/8 x 7 1/8 on 454).
This does point to there being a different bowl design in the newer model.

It's also heavier: 62+32=94lbs vs 57.3+31.5=88.8lbs)

As far as I've discovered, this is the only forum trying to figure out the difference between these models. That's why I'm posting this almost 2 years later.

Toto has a great reputation for being the best flushing toilet you can Buy.They earned that reputation in the 1990's When low flow toilets were new in America and well established companies like Kohler, Eljer and American standard put out toilets that didn't flush well. The Drake was one of the first models that Toto put out that flushed fantastic (for the time). As technology changed the Drake was replaced with the Drake II (cst454). The Drake II fixed some of the Drakes short comings and introduced the tornado flush which out performed the original Drake. Both were sold at the same time and a customer could choose which model they wanted. Most of these choices boiled down to cost. The Drake was about $100.00 cheaper then the Drake II. The Drake was then discontinued and rebranded the New Drake. The New Drake (cst776) has the exact same flush as the Drake II . The tornado flush does a good job with cleaning the bowl and it has the same flush tower system (an upgrade from the traditional flapper.) your only difference is cosmetics. The Drake II tank has a curved front where the new Drake tank has a flat front. The new Drake is still about $100.00 cheaper then the Drake II.
Hope this helps with the decision making.
Good Luck
