Just started noticing a brown foam form at the top of my brine tank. Any insight on this and how to prevent it would be much appreciated.

Fleck 5600SXT Settings:
DF = Gal ; Units
VT = dF1b ; Downflw/, Single Backwash, black cam
CT = Fd ; Meter Delayed regen trigger
NT = 1 ; Number of tanks
C = 44 ; capacity in 1000 grains
H = 20 ; Hardness-- compensate if needed
RS = rc ; rc says use gallons vs percent
RC = 240 ; Reserve capacity gallons
DO = 30 ; Day Override (28 if no iron)
RT = 2:00 ; Regen time (default 2 AM)
BW = 5 ; Backwash (minutes)
Bd = 60 ; Brine draw minutes
RR = 5 ; Rapid Rinse minutes
BF = 9 ; Brine fill minutes
FM = ____0.7

Thank you!

How long since the brine tank was cleaned?
Clean it maybe every 2000 pounds of salt.

City water or well water?

Your notes should have either FM = t0.7 or FM = P0.7

I would not expect to need cleaning yet. Should be a long way to go.

I am guessing you use solar softener salt; a lot of people do. I don't know that would explain the brown foam with your city water, but I don't know what would explain it.

I typically use the bright and soft pellets. Should I be using the solar softener salt?

Would a replacement of all water and salt in the brine tank be the next steps?

Softener salt pellets are usually cleaner than solar.

I don't know what to suggest. If it were me, I might use a utility pump circulating brine thru a filter, and back into the tank. However I have a utility pump and a filter.
