Hello forum. in the photo, the vertical pipe goes through the basement floor to the sewer line. the horizontal pipe is 1-1/2 diameter and comes from a bathroom sink on the other side of the wall, about 4' away. I would like to install a utility sink about a foot away from the vertical pipe. Is it possible to install a wye in the horizontal pipe in the photo to drain the utility sink? Thanks in advance

I would not know, even if I knew what code you were under. Whoever might know might need to know that you are in Costa Rica, or wherever, to have a clue as to what code would apply to you.

Potentially also relevant is if the drain line is vented in that wall, or if the big pipe from above is doing the venting.

Normally you would have 2" before the vent on a utility sink or laundry tray. The trap and the venting could be 1.5"
Two lavs would be 2" and a lav and a utility sink would be 2"
Would it work? I would think so. I do like to answer with the idea that you may be getting an inspection and I would like it to pass. Though codes vary from place to place, and even us plumbers find we need to get to know the local inspectors and what they expect .

Plumbing from a floor above does not vent the lower floor
