So, due to a joist being the way my toilet rough in is 17...had they place it on the other side of the joist (which I think would've been smarter) rough in would've been closer to 13" but that's neither here or there now, it's a bit late to move the rough in without massive drywall and tile work.

With a 2" offset it'll bring that rough in to 15", can I think use a 14" toto unifit toilet to minimize the gap? I would prefer to find a way to make my original decision of a toto drake work but I can potentially swallow the price difference for a aquia iv

You can improve things using a Toto Vespin iI with a 14 inch Unifit.

I ended up using a 12 inch Unifit to about a 13.25 rough.

My vespin uni-fit story / saga:

HOWEVER, my flange was a 4 inch, so there was a bigger hole to hit.

If this bathroom is over a basement or crawlspace, I don't see massive drywall plus tile work. Maybe one or the other. The toilet would cover the changes in the basement floor.

But if this is over a finished basement or is on the second floor, yes, I could see significant drywall work.

A "space saver" over the toilet tank would help camouflage the remaining extra gap.
