Dear Stranger,
This 3" PVC sewer line sounds like cascading waterfalls and fireworks when high flow is passing through otherwise normal water trickle. Not really a concern until someone is in the guest room behind that open wall, and it can be noisy! I take showers at night so can be quite disruptive.
Flow is coming from master bathroom with shower, two sinks, tub, and toilet.
It is a new rather expensive house but all pex and PVC. No attempt to soundproof.
We had our plumber investigate and tried shimming this 3" pipe which may have helped a little but not really. Elbow at the ceiling and two more in the unfinished basement right below the floor to join a main trunk.
In your opinion, what would be the best way to soundproof this line? Replace all with cast iron? Gentle those bends? Wrap the pipe with MLV? Stuff the wall with insulation and Quietrock drywall?
Our plumber wanted to change everything to cast and redo those bends. Not cheap!
I thank you all for your advice!
Regards,
Franco
