Hello. I've actually been here before with questions about my RO system, and now I have another.
I replaced the two filters and the membrane this weekend on my GE GXRM10RBL water filter. The previous owner installed the system, but never changed the filters. The first time, it was WAY OVERDUE. Since then, I have done it two more times so far (this weekend was the third time I have done it).
The problem that I can't seem to solve is removing the filters and membrane themselves from their housings. Every time, it takes EXTREME effort on my part to break the threads loose and remove the caps from all three housings. In addition to the special tool provided, I have had to use channel lock pliers to grip the housings, and have had to use so much force, I have actually marred the housings up with gouges. After I install new filters, they actually leak at first, and I only tighten them just to the point where the leaking stops, so I am being very careful not to over-tighten them. Still, I have this issue.
I'm coating all O-rings with plumber's silicone grease, and have even tried coating the housings' plastic threads as well, but it doesn't seem to help.
Is there any kind of "plumber's trick" to ensure that the housings will be easy to disassemble the next time?
Thank you for any suggestions.
